Orlando is an Oscar-winning socially engaged documentary director, known for Virunga, The White Helmets, Evelyn, and as the producer of Learning to Skateboard in a Warzone (if you’re a girl).
He comes to Folkestone to coincide with the release by Netflix of his new film Convergence, which tracks the first year of Covid through multiple different global stories.
In this masterclass, Orlando will discuss how he decides which stories to pursue, and the approach of his production company Grain, who are dedicated to inspiring narratives of humble heroism from around the world, following extraordinary characters with intimacy, rigorous journalism, and always with relationships of trust with protagonists.
At Creative Folkestone Quarterhouse
Running time: 60 minutes
Hosted by Charlie Phillips (Guardian).
The talk will also be live-streamed on the Creative Folkestone YouTube Channel.
